Publication Ethics

Publication Ethics

Islamosphere: Journal of Global Islamic Studies is a peer-reviewed international journal committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. This statement clarifies the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors-in-chief, editorial boards, reviewers, and the publisher (Yayasan Citra Dharma Cendekia). Our ethical standards are guided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines and inspired by Islamic values of honesty (shidq), trustworthiness (amanah), and justice (‘adl).

Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication

The publication of an article in Islamosphere represents a valuable contribution to the collective knowledge of global Islamic studies. It reflects the scholarly integrity of the authors and the supporting institutions. Upholding ethics in publication is essential in promoting trustworthy knowledge aligned with both academic and Islamic principles.

The publisher and the editorial board take ethical responsibility seriously and ensure that no commercial interests affect editorial decisions. Integrity, objectivity, and fairness guide every stage of the publishing process.

Editorial Responsibilities

Publication Decisions

The editor is responsible for deciding which articles are published based on their scholarly merit, originality, significance, and contribution to the field of global Islamic studies. Decisions are made impartially and free from bias, following the reviewers’ recommendations while upholding Islamic ethical values.

Fair Play

Editors assess manuscripts based solely on academic content, without discrimination based on race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, sect, political views, or religious orientation.

Confidentiality

Editors and staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, disclosing information only to the authors, reviewers, and publisher as necessary.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Editors must not use unpublished materials for their own research without written permission from the authors.

Reviewers' Responsibilities

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Reviewers assist editors in making informed decisions and help authors improve their manuscripts through constructive feedback rooted in scholarly critique and adab (ethics of disagreement).

Timeliness

Reviewers who are unable to review within the given timeframe should notify the editor promptly.

Confidentiality

All manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential. Reviewers must not share or discuss manuscripts without editor approval.

Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted fairly and objectively. Personal criticism is inappropriate. Clear, evidence-based feedback should be provided.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify uncited relevant works and alert the editor to any substantial similarity with other published works.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Reviewers must not use information from the manuscript for personal advantage and should decline to review if a conflict of interest exists.

Authors' Responsibilities

Reporting Standards

Authors must present original research accurately and objectively. Falsification, fabrication, or dishonest reporting violates academic and Islamic ethics and is strictly prohibited.

Data Access and Retention

Authors should be prepared to provide raw data for editorial review and allow data sharing when necessary, ensuring transparency and reproducibility.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure their work is original and appropriately cite others’ contributions. Plagiarism and autoplagiarism are major ethical violations and strictly prohibited.

Multiple and Redundant Publications

Manuscripts must not be submitted to multiple journals simultaneously or describe essentially the same research as other published works.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Proper attribution must be given to the works of others that influenced the research.

Authorship

Authorship is limited to individuals who significantly contributed to the study. All co-authors must approve the final version and consent to publication.

Hazards and Ethical Considerations

Authors must declare any potential risks related to chemicals, procedures, or sensitive topics and ensure compliance with Islamic and international research ethics when involving human or animal subjects.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose financial or other conflicts of interest that could influence their findings.

Correction of Errors

If significant errors or inaccuracies are found post-publication, authors must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correction or retraction.

Publisher’s Responsibilities

The publisher ensures the independence of editorial decisions from commercial influence and is committed to maintaining publication ethics in accordance with Islamic values. The publisher supports the journal in handling complaints, investigating ethical violations, and promoting integrity in scholarly publishing.

Islamosphere strives to uphold the trustworthiness (amanah ‘ilmiyyah) in academic publishing for the betterment of global Islamic knowledge.
